HoneyBird plays Metropolis is a multi-faceted live production by Sunshine Coast band, HoneyBird performed against the silent classic 1927 sci-fi film by Fritz Lang, Metropolis.

In this full–throttle, live rock-opera, the story takes place in a highly stylised futuristic city sharply divided between the working class and the city planners. A beautiful utopia exists above a depressing underworld populated by faceless, mistreated workers and an unlikely romance between the son of the city’s mastermind and a working class prophet.

Audiences today can identify with the film's deeper moral desires and the underlying political themes, which in today's fraught political climate resonates more than ever. The Metropolis score was developed by HoneyBird and re-imagines the artistic vision and striking meaning of the film. The highly theatrical performance incorporates a full band and string quartet, interfaced with an updated narrative arc for the film by Ian Golding.
